Newborn baby head circumference: 13" - 14", Hat height = 5.5 to 6"= J hook,
Instructions:
Two ways to start this Hat with a Magic Circle or Do Rnd 1:
Here is a Magic Circle with Double Crochet Video, then Continue on to Rnd 2: or Do Rnd 1: Instead of the Magic Circle:

rnd 1: Black yarn, ch 5- slip stitch to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as a Dc), 11 dc in the ring, join with sl st. on top of ch 3. -12 sts.
rnd 2. ch 2, dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each st. around. join with sl st on top of chain 2. -24 sts.
rnd 3. ch 2 counts as the first stitch, *2dc in next st., dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -36 sts.
rnds 4-9. ch 2, dc in each stitch around until hat reaches 5 inches or finish with 9 Rounds. sl st, fasten off.
 
Ears: Make 2,

If you want to use this Pattern for Stripes Newborn Hat:
Use the Hat Pattern up above, Just Alternate with The Color of yarn of your choice for the 1st round with a slip stitch and the next color of choice for the next round with a slip stitch, and alternate between the two colors for a striped hat!

Head: Make 2, E hook

Rnd 1: Work 10 sc in the Magic Circle, Sl st. -10 sc

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around, Sl st. -20 sc

Rnd 3: Work a sc in the first sc, *work 2 sc in the next, sc in the next sc, *Repeat around, -30 sc Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Ears: Make 4

Rnd 1: Work 10 sc in the Magic Circle, Sl st. -10 sc

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around, Sl st. -20 sc

Attach the Ears to both sides of the Head as seen in the picture above.

Straps:

2.10 Size Hook

Toe Straps: Make 2, Chain 22, Attach the Toe Strap at the bottom of the Head. This Attaches to your Toe next to the Big toe.

Straps: Make 4 , Chain 65, Attach the straps to the center of the top of both ears. Tie the Straps around your ankles.

Rnd 1: Chain 13, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc in each chain across, work 3 sc in the last chain. Work on the opposite side, Don't Turn, and sc across, work 2 sc in the last stitch. 
Rnds 2-9: Ch 1, Hdc in each back loop around, Use a marker to keep track of the rounds, work in continual rounds.
Rnd 10: Ch 3(Counts as a dc), dc in each hdc around, sl st. This is where you will place the ribbon, so take your ribbon and weave it in and out each dc and tie a bow in the front.
Top: Ch 3(Counts as a dc), work 4 dc in the same hdc, *sc in the next hdc, work 5 dc in the next hdc, *Repeat around. sl st. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

I created this Rainbow Wash cloth following ROY G BIV; which is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet colors. I used pink instead of red and dark blue for indigo.
