I had a request for this Crochet Thomas the Train hat! So I made this crochet hat and I hope everyone enjoys it! 

Crochet Hat sizes with this Double crochet pattern
Newborn baby head circumference, 13" - 14", Hat height = 5.5 to 6"= D hook, 
Baby 3 to 6 months, Head Cir, 14" - 17 ", Hat height= 6.5 - 7"=E hook, 
baby 6-12 months, 16"-19" head cir., hat length=6.5-7"=F hook,
toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =G hook, 
child 3-10 yrs, head cir., 19"-20 1/2 "", hat length= 7.5"=H hook, 
teens, head cir., 20 1/2"-22", hat length, 7.5-8"=I hook, 
Adult women, 21.5"-22.5", hat length, 8"= J

Supplies: 
Red, black, Grey, red, and white yarn
I Hook, H hook, F hook,Yarn needle

Abbreviations: dc=double crochet sc=single crochet sl st=slip stitch ch=chain, hdc=half double crochet, 2sctog=2 single crochet together decrease

Made this for a toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =G hook

Instructions:
G hook
blue yarn
ch 5- slip stitch to form a ring,
rnd 1. ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st. on top of ch 3. -12 sts.
rnd 2. ch 2, dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each st. around. join with sl st on top of chain 2. -24 sts.
rnd 3. ch 2 counts as the first stitch, *2dc in next st., dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -36 sts.
rnd 4. ch 2, dc in the next st., 2dc in the next sts., *dc in the next two stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -48 sts.
rnd 5. ch 2, dc in the next two stitches, 2dc in the next st., *dc in the next three stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -60 sts.
rnd 6. *ch 2, dc in each st around, join sl st., *Repeat. continue until the hat reaches 6.5 inches, sl st. fasten off. (if this is a smaller size the length will be shorter, look above for sizes and what hook to use.) 
sl st with grey yarn, ch 2, dc in each stitch around, sl st, fasten off, Then sl st with red yarn, ch 2, dc in each stitch around. sl st. fasten off.

Ear flaps: If you would like to add ear flaps
Make 2
G hook, red yarn

1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your red yarn, begin the dc stitches, (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)

2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.


Row 1. ch 2, dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts
Row 2. ch 2, dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -9
Row 3. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. -7
Row 4. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -5
Row 5. ch 2, dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through -3

The braid from the center of the ear flap at the bottom, I hook, use Red and Blue yarn, with a sl st in the center of the bottom of the ear flap and chain 30, and sl st it off and cut yarn.


Face: Grey yarn, H hook
ch 2, work 5sc in the ring. sl st (5sc)
Row 1. work 2sc in each stitch around, sl st (10sc)
Row 2. *1sc in next stitch, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat, sl st (15sc)
Row 3.*1sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat, sl st (20sc)
Row 4. *1sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat, sl st (25sc)
Row 5. *1sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat, sl st (30sc)
Row 6. *1sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat, sl st (35sc)
Row 7. *1sc in next 6 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat, sl st (40sc)
fasten off.

Trim: with black yarn, sc in each stitch around, (40sc)

Sew all the features on the grey face.

Eyes: Two options for the eyes, which ever you like best, f hook
black and white yarn
Make 2
Start with black yarn
ch 2, work 4 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. (4sc) sl st.
Switch to white yarn,
Rnd 1. work 2sc in the each stitch around, sl st. (8sc) fasten off
Place the eyes above the nose and mouth.


Eyebrows: With black yarn make two half circles above the eyes.

2nd Option for the eye: Pupil: black yarn, D hook, ch 2, 3sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st.
White part of the eye, G hook, ch 2,work 10sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. sl st. fasten off. Sew the pupil on the center of the white part of the eye, sew on the face.
Eyebrows: with black yarn make two half circles above the eyes.

Mouth:
F hook
chain 7, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st. fasten off, (6 sts)
Place the mouth on the bottom center.
With Black yarn, make half circle dash lines in the corner of the mouth on both sides.

Nose:
With black yarn, sew a half circle above the mouth.

Smoke Stack:
Black yarn
H hook
ch 2, work 5 single in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st.  (5sc)
Row 1. Work 2sc in the each stitch around, sl st. (10sc)
Rows 2-3. *sc in every stitch around twice, sl st. *Twice (10sc)
Row 4. *2sctog decrease, sc in the next stitch, *repeat (7sc)
Rows 5- *sc in each stitch around, sl st
*repeat until the entire smoke stack reaches 3 inches, (7sc)
Stuff it with black yarn and sew it above the face.

Black circles for the bottom of the hat, make 2, place them on the red yarn at the bottom of the hat:
 H hook
ch 2, work 5 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. (5sc)
Row 1. work 2sc in each stitch around, sl st. (10sc)
