Crochet Hat sizes with this Double crochet pattern or HDC pattern:
Newborn baby head circumference: 13" - 14", Hat height = 5.5 to 6"= F hook, Baby - 3 to 6 months, Head Cir, 14" - 17 ", Hat height= 6.5 - 7"= G hook, baby 6-12 months, 16"-19" head cir., hat length=6.5-7"=H hook, toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =I hook, child 3-10 yrs, head cir., 19"-20 1/2 "", hat length= 7.5"=J hook, teens, head cir., 20 1/2"-22", hat length, 7.5-8"= K hook, Adult women, 21.5"-22.5", hat length, 8"= (I hook, with an increased round, rnd 5.ch 2, dc in the 2 next sts, 2dc in the next st; *dc in the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch. repeat from * around, join (60 sts))

Tighter Stitch: Also if you would like a tighter stitch you can make an increase.
Rnd. 5: ch  2, dc in the next 2 sts, 2dc in the next st; *dc in the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat from* around, join (60 sts) =toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =G hook
 Rnd. 5: ch  2, dc in the next 2 sts, 2dc in the next st; *dc in the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat from* around, join (60 sts) = child 3-10 yrs, head cir, 19-20.5", hat length=7"= h hook

This pattern is done in a double crochet or half double crochet pattern!

Supplies: 
Light Blue, dark blue, white, and blue yarn
I Hook, H hook, Yarn needle

Abbreviations: dc=double crochet sc=single crochet sl st=slip stitch ch=chain, hdc=half double crochet,

Made this for a toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =I hook

Instructions:

I hook

light blue yarn

ch 5- slip stitch to form a ring,

rnd 1. ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st. on top of ch 3. -12 sts.

rnd 2. ch 2, dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each st. around. join with sl st on top of chain 2. -24 sts.
rnd 3. ch 2 counts as the first stitch, *2dc in next st., dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -36 sts.

rnd 4. ch 2, dc in the next st., 2dc in the next st., *dc in the next two stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -48 sts.

rnd 5. *ch 2, dc in each st around, join sl st., *repeat. continue until the hat reaches 7 inches, sl st. fasten off. (if this is a smaller size the length will be shorter, look above for sizes and what hook to use.)

Ear flaps: If you would like to add ear flaps

Make 2

I hook, light blue yarn

1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your light blue yarn, begin the dc stitches, (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)

2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.

ch 2. dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts

ch 2. dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -9

ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. -7

ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -5

ch 2. dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through -3

The braid from the center of the ear flap at the bottom, I hook, use dark blue yarn, with a sl st in the center of the bottom of the ear flap and chain 30, and sl st it off and cut yarn.

  

Eyes:

h hook
white yarn
Make 2
chain 6, hdc in the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc in the next 3 chains, 3hdc in the last chain, don't turn, work on the opposite side.
hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, keep working around, hdc in the next 5 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch, fasten off.
Place the ears close together, only .25 inch apart.


Pupils: dark blue or black
Make 2,
h hook
ch 2, work 5 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. (5sc) sl st. fasten off
Place the pupils on the bottom of the eyes, sew the eyes above the nose.

Ears:
2hdctog=2 half double crochet together decrease
h hook, light blue yarn
chain 8, hdc in the 2nd chain from the hook, turn -7sts
Rows 2-10. *ch 1, hdc in each stitch across, turn -7sts
Row 11. ch 1,  2hdc in the first stitch, hdc in each stitch across, 2hdc in the last stitch, turn (9sts)
Row 12. ch 1, hdc in each stitch across, turn, (9sts)
Row 13. ch 1, 2hdc in the first stitch, hdc in each stitch across, 2hdc in the last stitch, turn (11sts)
Row 14-15. ch 1, hdc in each stitch across, turn, (11sts)
Row 16. ch 1, 2hdctog decrease, hdc in each stitch across, 2hdctog decrease, turn (9sts)
Row 17 ch 1, 2hdctog decrease, hdc in each stitch across, 2hdctog decrease, turn (7sts)
Row 18. ch 1, 2hdctog decrease, hdc in each stitch across, 2hdctog decrease, turn (5sts)
Row 19. ch 1, 2hdctog decrease, hdc in each stitch across, 2hdctog decrease, turn (3sts) fasten off. Place the ears on the side of the hat on top.


Nose:
picot stitch (find how on YouTube) chain 3, slip stitch in the 3rd chain from the hook
H hook

dark blue yarn
ch 6, work sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and sc each stitch across, turn (5sts)
Row 1. ch1,  hdc in the first stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch, picot stitch in the next stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch, hdc in the last stitch, sl st. fasten off. (5sts) Place the nose center below the eyes.

Spots:
Make 6 or how many you would like
H hook, blue yarn
chain 2, 5sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st. (5sts)
Row 1. work 2sc in each stitch around, sl st. (10sts) Place some spots on the ears and face.

Half Double Crochet Hat instead of the Double crochet hat, optional You could also do this hat as a hdc hat too: Which would be a tighter stitch, I like both, dc hat is faster to do, but not as warm. Use the hook chart above for sizes too. Hdc pattern instead of dc pattern half double crochet hat instead of double crochet I hook blue yarn, Size for a child's head (toddler), Use a larger hook for a larger head or smaller hook for smaller head, or increase a round.

Instructions: I hook, light blue yarn, ch 5, sl st, to form a ring. rnd 1. ch 2 (count as one hdc), do 9 hdc in the ring, sl st. (10 hdc) rnd 2. ch 2, do 2hdc in each stitch around, continue around, without a slip stitch (start to use a marker) (20 hdc) rnd 3. *do hdc in the next stitch, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around, no slip stitch or chain, (I would use a marker so you can keep track of your increased rounds) (30 hdc) rnd 4. *do hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (40 hdc) rnd 5. *do hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (50 hdc) rnd 6. *do hdc in the next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (60 hdc) rnd 7. *do hdc in each stitch around,*repeat until you hat measures 7 inches long 

Ear flaps:

Make 2

I hook , use light blue yarn

For the first ear flap, continue from your hat. 2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in hdc directly across from the last hdc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.

ch 2. hdc in next 14 stitches, turn. -14 sts

ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in the next 9 stitches. hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn. -12 sts

ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in next 7 stitches. hdc2tog. hdc in last st., turn. -10 sts

ch 2. hdc in each stitch across, turn. -10 sts

ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in the next 5 stitches. hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn. -8 sts

ch 2. hdc in each stitch across, turn -8 sts
ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in the next 3, hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn -6 sts
ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in next 1, hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn. -4sts
ch 2. hdc in each stitch across, pull through and fasten off. -4 sts

Trim: use dark blue yarn, sc around the hat and ear flaps, do the same for the features as seen above.
