Crochet Hat sizes with this Double crochet pattern
Newborn baby head circumference, 13" - 14", Hat height = 5.5 to 6"= D hook, 
Baby 3 to 6 months, Head Cir, 14" - 17 ", Hat height= 6.5 - 7"=E hook, 
baby 6-12 months, 16"-19" head cir., hat length=6.5-7"=F hook,
toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =G hook, 
child 3-10 yrs, head cir., 19"-20 1/2 "", hat length= 7.5"=H hook, 
teens, head cir., 20 1/2"-22", hat length, 7.5-8"=I hook, 
Adult women, 21.5"-22.5", hat length, 8"= J

Supplies:
white and brown yarn
G Hook,Yarn needle

Abbreviations: dc=double crochet sc=single crochet sl st=slip stitch ch=chain, hdc=half double crochet, 2sctog=2 single crochet together decrease

Made this for a toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =G hook

Instructions:
G hook
brown yarn

ch 5- slip stitch to form a ring,
rnd 1. ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st. on top of ch 3. -12 sts.
rnd 2. ch 2 (Counts as the first dc stitch), dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each st. around. join with sl st on top of chain 2. -24 sts.
rnd 3. ch 2 (Counts as the first dc stitch), *2dc in next st., dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -36 sts.
rnd 4. ch 2, dc in the next st., 2dc in the next st., *dc in the next two stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -48 sts.
Rnd 5. Switch to white yarn with a slip stitch, ch 2, dc in the next two sts., 2dc in the next st., *dc in the next three stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -60 sts.
rnd 6. Switch back to brown yarn with a slip stitch, *ch 2, dc in each st around, join sl st., *repeat. continue until the hat reaches 6 inches long, sl st.
Switch back to white yarn with a slip stitch, ch 2. dc in each stitch around once. sl st. Switch back to brown yarn, ch 2. dc in each stitch around once. fasten off. (if this is a smaller size the length will be shorter, look above for sizes and what hook to use.)
Dash lines, with a yarn needle, make a 3 inch vertical line, then make 3, 2 inch horizontal lines across the vertical line.

Ear flaps: If you would like to add ear flaps
Make 2
G hook, brown yarn
1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your brown yarn, begin the dc stitches, (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)
2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.


Row 1. ch 2, dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts
Row 2. ch 2, dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -9
Row 3. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. -7
Row 4. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -5
Row 5. ch 2, dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through -3
 The braid from the center of the ear flap at the bottom, H hook, use brown and white yarn, with a sl st in the center of the bottom of the ear flap and chain 30, and sl st it off and cut yarn.
