Crochet Hat sizes with this Double crochet pattern or HDC pattern:
Newborn baby head circumference: 13" - 14", Hat height = 5.5 to 6"= F hook, Baby - 3 to 6 months, Head Cir, 14" - 17 ", Hat height= 6.5 - 7"= G hook, baby 6-12 months, 16"-19" head cir., hat length=6.5-7"=H hook, toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =I hook, child 3-10 yrs, head cir., 19"-20 1/2 "", hat length= 7.5"=J hook, teens, head cir., 20 1/2"-22", hat length, 7.5-8"= K hook
 
Toddler hat with an 18 inch head Use a larger hook for larger head or smaller hook for smaller head

Supplies: Red heart black yarn, its a stiffer yarn, so the ears will stand up I hook, G hook


Abbreviations: ch=chain sl st=slip stitch hdc=half double crochet hdc2tog=half double crochet two together


Instructions: Black yarn, I hook ch 5, sl st, to form a ring. 
rnd 1. ch 2 (count as one hdc), do 9 hdc in the ring, sl st. (10 hdc)
rnd 2. ch 2, do 2hdc in each stitch around, continue around, without a slip stitch (start to use a marker) (20 hdc) 
rnd 3. *do hdc in the next stitch, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around, no slip stitch or chain, (I would use a marker so you can keep track of your increased rounds) (30 hdc) 
rnd 4. *do hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (40 hdc) 
rnd 5. *do hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (50 hdc)
rnd 6. *do hdc in the next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (60 hdc)
rnd 7. *do hdc in each stitch around,*repeat until you hat measures 7 inches long., sl st., continue on for the first earflap 

Ears: Make 2 Ears, G hook, Black yarn
rnd 1. chain 3, join with sl st. to create a ring
rnd 2. 10 sc into the ring, sl st. join 
rnd 3. *2sc in the next st, *Repeat to finish around (20 st.) 
rnd 4. *1 sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st. *Repeat, sl st. rnd 5. *1 sc in the next 2 stitches, 2sc in the next st, *Repeat, sl st. Fasten the ears on top of the hat.

Ear flaps:
Make 2
I hook , use black yarn
For the first ear flap, continue from your hat. 2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in hdc directly across from the last hdc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.
ch 2. hdc in next 14 stitches, turn. -14 sts
ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in the next 9 stitches. hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn. -12 sts
ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in next 7 stitches. hdc2tog. hdc in last st., turn. -10 sts
ch 2. hdc in each stitch across, turn. -10 sts
ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in the next 5 stitches. hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn. -8 sts
ch 2. hdc in each stitch across, turn -8 sts
ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in the next 3, hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn -6 sts
ch 2. hdc2tog, hdc in next 1, hdc2tog. hdc in the last st., turn. -4sts
ch 2. hdc in each stitch across, pull through and fasten off. -4 sts

Trim: use black yarn, sc around the hat and ear flaps

The braid from the center of the ear flap at the bottom, use black yarn, with a sl st in the center of the bottom of the ear flap and chain 30, and sl st it off and cut yarn.

Ears:: Make 2, G hook, Black, white, ch 2 
rnd 1: work 5 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st. -5 sc
rnd 2: work 2sc in each stitch around, (10sc) sl st.
rnd 3: *work 1 sc in the next stitch, 2sc in next stitch, *repeat from* around, sl st. -15 sc
rnd 4: *work 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat from *around, sl st. -20 sc
rnd 5: *work 1 sc in the next 3 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat from *around, sl st. -25 sc
rnd 6: work 1 sc in the next 4 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat from *around, sl st. fasten off. weave in the ends. -30 sc

Place the ears 2 inches apart on top of the hat.

Hi this is lovely but I think we create the eyes and nose for Mickey Mouse.
